Kalua Pork Oven Style

No time to dig an imu to make Kalua pork? Chef Keoni shows us this easy way to make Kalua pork in the convenience of your own oven. This recipe can also be used with a slow cooker.

Ingredients  

  • 5 pounds Pork Butt or Pork Shoulder
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoons Hawaiian salt

Instructions 

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Score the pork butt on all sides with a diamond pattern. The incisions should be no deeper than ¼ inch deep.
  3. Rub the pork butt with the liquid smoke and Hawaiian salt.
  4. Place the pork butt in a 9X13 pan lined with foil. Cover with foil and place in the oven.
  5. Cook for 8-10 hours or until fully cooked and easily shreds.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool until you can handle.
  7. Shred the pork. Adjust the seasoning and moisture of the kalua pork with salted water.

Notes

This recipe can be made in a slow cooker.
