The Story of "Share a Holiday Feast"

Twelve years ago, a few weeks before Thanksgiving, one of our Maui customers shared a wonderful idea with us. While shopping at our Pukalani store, she had purchased several extra turkeys and asked our store director to give them to needy families in the area. She called to tell us that she believed other customers would like to do the same, and asked whether Foodland could help make it possible.

I remember talking to my dad, our company founder, about the idea. “Why not,” we thought, “let’s see if our customers respond.” And respond you did! That year, through the generosity of customers like you, we provided over 500 holiday meals to families identified by the Salvation Army, families who might not otherwise enjoy a turkey dinner for the holidays.

The program, called Share A Holiday Feast has continued to grow, and our customers continue to tell us it makes them feel good to help others who are less fortunate. Over the years, with the participation of not only individual customers, but schools, clubs, organizations and churches, we have provided the Salvation Army with tens of thousands of holiday meals to give to families.

To participate in this year’s program, simply tell your cashier that you would like to Share A Holiday Feast. Contributions may be made in the amounts of $5, $10 or $15, and, for the first time this year, Foodland will give you ten times that value in Maika`i points. It’s one small way that we can thank you for your generosity.

As a local, family owned business, operating here in Hawaii for 52 years, we are proud to have worked with you, our customers, to make the holidays more special for so many families. Thank you for your kindess and generosity. And from all of us at Foodland and Sack N Save, Happy Holidays to you and your family.
